@Louise: Come to think of it, you're right, it was probably the salad. I've been told many times by the locals not to order salad but I couldn't help myself.

Thanks for the reminder! I totally forgot to mention what I ate inside the heads so I added it to my post. It was something that was similar to egg yolk...

@Anthony: The spicy and sour fish pot was really awesome. I would go back just for that dish.

I don't know if people actually eat the beak, maybe it deserve a suck or two but I just couldn't do it!

Hm, it might have been the salad. I try not to eat anything raw when I visit another country just b/c my stomach probably doesn't have the right defenses to break down any bacteria. I'll eat all sorts of street food and local food, but it HAS to be cooked.

What did you eat in the duck head? Duck heads don't seem like they have much meat.

It all looks luscious...especially the fish pot. If you think about it, the idea of having either of those two specialties would sound appalling to any average American.

I wonder...do people actually eat the beaks? They seem like they would be too hard. I imagine it would be difficult to get sympathy from some people if you said you got food poisoning eating duck heads in Shanghai. The very idea would throw many people over the loop.

Fun post!
